Confidential Computing Basics

When Will Confidential Computing Become Mainstream and What Is Its Potential Impact?

The widespread adoption of confidential computing is seen as inevitable. As barriers to its implementation are lowered and it becomes seamlessly integrated into cloud infrastructures, it is expected to quickly become a standard feature. Predictions suggest that within the next two to three years, about 10% of workloads could use confidential computing, with the potential for rapid growth thereafter. This transition might mirror the shift from HTTP to HTTPS in web communications, where security became a default expectation. The most significant impact of widespread confidential computing adoption will be the establishment of a new norm in data security, where users can trust that their data and applications are secure by default in any computing environment. This shift will fundamentally change the trust model in cloud computing, enhancing security for all users.
